Project Description:

The project consists of the construction of a Kayak/Canoe launch providing access to the Hudson River. The site is a designated Water Trail site on the Hudson River Greenway Water Trail and will serve as an access point to the downtown environs of the Village of Athens. This Project has been funded in part by a grant from the NYS Environmental Protection Fund through the Hudson River Estuary Program of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

Pedestrian accommodations include a raised timber boardwalk linking a pedestrian plaza and parking with the launch. Then plaza provides a kayak rack for temporary storage, benches, lighting and signage. Construction includes stabilization of the River shoreline with new timber bulkhead and River garden plantings. Mr. Kleinke served as the principal Landscape Architect for the project, providing site design, construction and landscape expertise to the Village, as well as permitting in association with Kaaterskill Associates - Project Engineers.

Approvals included ACOE, NYS DEC, NYS SHPPO, NYS OGS and the Village of Athens, NY. The project is presently under construction with completion est. 6/09.
